Hi,
In this week’s post I am going to teach you about Website Analytics and you will also learn how to install analytics on your website for free.
I will also give you a live demo of Website Analytics at this month’s online seminar. If you are a member of my Advanced Website Mentoring Membership you will be receiving an invitation soon so keep an eye on your inbox.
Website Analytics is software that monitors all activity on your website. How does this benefit you? If you know what your website’s visitors are doing while on your website, you can determine your website’s weak points as well as its strong points.
Once you know this you are able to eliminate the weak points and improve upon the strong ones turning your website into a well oiled machine.
Here are just a few of the things Website Analytics can monitor on your site:
- How many unique visitors your website gets
- How many returning visitors your website gets
- What keywords people are typing into search engines to find your website
- What other websites are linking to yours
- How many of your visitors come from each of those websites
- How long people stay on each page of your website
- Which pages are more popular
- What links get clicked on the most
- What the conversion rate is for specific goals you have for your site
- What geographical location your visitors come from, down to the city.
And that is just the tip of the iceberg! You can start to see how powerful Website Analytics can be for improving your website.
Now, I’ll show you how you can get it set up for free.
The first thing you need is a Google account. If you already use some of Google’s services such as Gmail or Adwords then you can use the same username and password to sign into Google Analytics.
Go to google.com/analytics to get started. From there you can sign in or create a new Google account for free. After you sign in it is very easy to set up. Just follow the step-by-step instructions on setting up a new site.
Once you have set up a new site, Google will give you a snippet of code. That code will need to be placed on each page of your website. Simply paste the code just above the </body> tag. The pages can then be uploaded to your server, and viola! You are now tracking everything that is happening on your website and you will be able to improve your website dramatically.
If you didn’t understand some of the technical stuff in that last paragraph, don’t worry. Google’s got you covered. They have a great tutorial here that makes it so easy a 8 year old could do it.
I will also be giving you detailed instruction during this month’s online seminar if you are an Advanced Member.
Now get out there and start monitoring and improving your website’s performance with Website Analytics!
To Your Website’s Success,
Chad Conger
